Russia & France Agree To Sign Mistral Contract In 15 days

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his French counterpart, Nicolas Sarkozy, agreed on Thursday that a contract on the purchase of four Mistral class helicopter carriers for Russia will be signed in 15 days.

"We have reached a final agreement that this contract will be signed in 15 days. Two helicopter carriers will be built in France and two more in Russia," Sarkozy said after talks with Medvedev.

He said that all controversial issues of the contract had been sorted out.

Advanced Block 50 F-16 For Turkish Air Force Unveiled



Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and Lockheed Martin unveiled the first of 30 new Turkish-built F-16s in ceremonies at TAI's facility near Ankara.
Turkish officials at the event included the nation's Minister of National Defense, Vecdi Gonul; Undersecretary for Defense Industries Murad Bayar; Turkish Air Force Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Abidin Unal; General Manager of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation Lt. Gen. (Retired) Hayrettin Uzun; and the Chairman of the Board of TAI, Lt. Gen. (Retired) Mehmet Yalcin Kaya.

The U.S. government was represented by Ambassador to Turkey Francis J. Ricciardone, Jr.; Heidi Grant, Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force for International Affairs; and Maj. Gen. Stanley Clarke III, Chief of the Office of Defense Cooperation.

Chinese Military Not Out To Challenge US: PLA General Staff



A top Chinese general said Wednesday his country was ready to bolster military ties with the United States but warned that Washington's arms sales to Taiwan remained a stumbling block.

In a week-long visit to the United States, People's Liberation Army Chief of General Staff Chen Bingde struck a mostly conciliatory tone, saying his country had no plans to take on the US military in the Pacific.
"I can tell you China does not have the capability to challenge the United States," Chen told a joint news conference with his US counterpart, Admiral Mike Mullen.

In the first trip to the United States by a PLA chief of staff in seven years, US officials hoped the visit will help pave the way for better defense ties that have been repeatedly cut off by Beijing.

Russia Expels Israeli Military Attache For Spying


Russia has expelled Israel's military attache at its Moscow embassy on "unfounded" spying allegations, the Israeli military said Wednesday, in a case that media say has officials here puzzled.

"The IDF (Israel Defence Forces) military attache and ministry of defence representative in Russia, an IDF colonel, was detained for investigation last week by Russian authorities, on suspicion of spying," the defence ministry and military said.

The joint statement did not name the man, who it said had been due to complete his posting in two months.

"Security authorities in Israel completed a thorough investigation and concluded that these claims were unfounded," it added.

IAF Chief Witness Flight Demonstration OF PAK FA Fighter In Russia





Indian Air Force chief Pradeep Vasant Naik witnessed flight demonstration of 5th Generation fighter aircraft PAK FA along with upgraded Indian air force’s Mig-29UPG .

Event was witnessed by the President of the United Aircraft Corporation, CEO of Sukhoi and RSK MiG Mikhail Pogosyan, the representatives of Rosoboronexport, the Russian Air Force. and the flight demonstration was held at Gromov Flight Research Institute in Moscow .

Attack on PNS Mehran Base - PAF Faisal Base




KARACHI: Terrorists have launched an armed attack on PNS Mehran, a heavily guarded facility of Pakistan Navy, located along Sharea Faisal, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Sunday.

TV images showed smoke billowing from PNS Mehran where terrorists have blown up a four-engine plane of Pakistan Navy by firing a rocket.

Five injured in the incident have so far been shifted to a local hospital.

Earlier, four blasts were reported from the area near PAF base Faisal.

China Expands Drone Surveillance Near Indian Border




High above the snowy peaks of the Himalayas, it was but a sparkling light.The unidentified object was, however, bright enough to catch the attention of officers of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) force, who were on a recent patrol in the difficult high terrain along India’s disputed mountainous border with China.The bright speck, they knew, was out of place among the gently flickering stars that usually keep them company on cold night patrols.

The ITBP and military experts believe the sighting was only the latest confirmation of a military programme across the border that is revolutionising China’s surveillance capabilities — the country’s fast-expanding domestic Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), or “drone”, industry.

China agree to give J-20/FC-20 5th Generation Stealth Fighter to Pakistan" Defence Minister Ahmad Mukhtar said.

The J-20 is a single-seat, twin-engine aircraft, bigger and heavier than the Sukhoi T-50 and the F-22. Comparison with ground-service vehicles points to an overall length of 75 ft. and a wingspan of 45 ft. or more, which would suggest a takeoff weight in the 75,000-80,000-lb. class with no external load. That in turn implies a generous internal fuel capacity. The overall length is close to that of the 1960s General Dynamics F-111, which carries 34,000 lb. of fuel. 

The J-20 has a canard delta layout (like Chengdu’s J-10) with two canted, all-moving vertical stabilizers (like the T-50) and smaller canted ventral fins. The stealth body shaping is similar to that of the F-22. The flat body sides are aligned with the canted tails, the wing-body junction is clean, and there is a sharp chine line around the forward fuselage. The cant angles are greater than they are on the Lockheed Martin F-35, and the frameless canopy is similar to that of the F-22.

Pakistan China To Launch Satellite On Aug 14



Pakistan and China would jointly launch a communication satellite on August 14 to replace the SAT-1 which is on the verge of expiry, officials said.

The satellite would be sent into the orbit on the Independence Day of Pakistan as a mark of the Sino-Pak friendship, an official said after Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani`s visit to China`s Academy of Space Technology (CAST) here on Friday.

The prime minister went around several sections of the academy and observed the activities and research being carried out there.

He was briefed about the space workshop and vacuum chamber of the academy where Pakistan`s satellite PAKSAT-1R is being manufactured.
