Iranian Cargo Plane Ordered To Land In Turkey

An Iranian cargo plane passing through Turkish airspace en route to Syria was ordered to land at an airport in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır Tuesday night, Anatolia news agency reported.

The plane, reportedly carrying military equipment, was ordered to land after the authorities received a tip that it carried nuclear weapons, Doğan news agency, or DHA, reported.

The plane was ordered to land after it entered Turkish airspace and then was escorted by two F-16 fighter jets to an airport in Diyarbakır province.

The plane was still being searched for nuclear materials Wednesday morning and hazardous materials teams were present at the airport, DHA added.
